Old man at the Serangoon bus stop Name: Bob
Age: 69
Time: Evening
This was a rather long observation as I was actually rather intrigued by this old man. Firstly, his name was Bob, because his friend was with him. It was interesting because, I happen to stand right behind their chair, so I was somewhat eavesdropping on their conversation. This Bob guy, is rather interesting because he speaks volume of himself to his friend. From his 10mins conversation with his friend, I know that he is a father of 3 children, 1 guy 2 girls, grandfather of 4, he’s 69 and is very vain as he loves to dress up even for a simple occasion. He spoke of when he was even asked to go for a simple family dinner of what clothes he wore and how expensive they were. I was somewhat a fashion guru, so I had a look at him. He was pretty decent, with his Montagut shirt and I’m not making this up, but he had leopard prints shoes( Which are quite amazing where he found them). Anyway, after observing him, I realised that from the time he and his friend waited for the bus till the time they board the bus, his mouth never stopped moving. He kept going on and on about himself. He was such a self-centered person.
2nd observation
Young girl at Esplanade Name: Dylon
Age: 20 plus (at most 25)
I was having a cup of coffee and muffin at the Esplanade Library when it was relatively quiet, but then this girl happen to sit on the couch. She sat there studying and listening to her mp3 player. She was pretty tense when it came to the questions which she didn’t know and she was very fidgety with her pen. She kept looking around and I have to say, she was quite cautious about what her surroundings were, every little thing triggered her off. Like even when people started moving away from the tables and chairs, she would stare at them.

Mr. WC still unconscious, stares at her blankly.
BB: Hey, old man! Listen! This is a public bus and anyone can sit here. Doesn’t mean I don’t give up my seat to you, means you can just bump around groping people.

Angrily, she stomps off the bus, leaving poor Mr. Whitaker Christopher all humiliated.
Reflections:
I will talk about the time when I was doing this excercise: People watch… Firstly, when I heard of this exercise, I knew that it was important as we needed to know how people would react and how people would behave to improve in out show and it will not seem fake… Therefore, during the whole exercise, I did feel like a stalker but it was for school work, so I noticed several things about Singaporean people.
1) They seem to like to mind their own business. As I was going around town and all my favourite spots around Singapore, it was obvious to me that people would rather mind their own business.
2) They are very cautious about everything. They notice every single bit, but they always miss out the little detail, they are more cautious of what people might think of them and what they do.
3) Never judge a book by it’s cover. NEVER! It’s seems easier said than done. But it was really, something that people would normally do, like stereotyping that old people are normally not well educated.
People Watch:
What happened to the names, addresses that you had picked out for your characters?
Your observations was detailed in the physical aspects, however, you didn’t really try and form an opinion of them based on their looks and behaviour.
Story:
Fairly interesting but a bit too much dialogue.
Reflection:
It’s true, never judge a book by its cover.
